What changes
| PNG to SVG | What happens |
|---|---|
| What suits it | Logos, icons, line drawings and signatures: areas of solid colour |
| Photos | Become flat areas of colour, like a poster, in a large file |
| Transparency | Kept. The background colour around the picture can be made see-through too |
| Small PNGs | Enlarged before tracing, so edges come out as curves, not steps |
| The file | A viewBox and no fixed size, one path per colour, rounded coordinates |
How to convert PNG to SVG
- Add your PNG. Drop the file in the box, or click to choose it. It becomes SVG straight away.
- Check the result. Look at the preview and the size. Pick the kind of picture or the number of colours if you like; it is traced again as you go.
- Download. Press Download to save the SVG.
An SVG is made of shapes, so a logo or icon stays sharp at any size and is often only a few kilobytes. The PNG is traced: its areas of colour are found and each is drawn as smooth curves.
Questions
Close, not identical: tracing redraws the picture as shapes. A flat logo comes out nearly the same; soft shadows and gradients become bands of colour.
Yes. Remove the background is on by default: the colour around the picture becomes see-through, and a PNG that is see-through already stays that way.
Yes. Each colour is one path, so Figma, Illustrator, Inkscape or a text editor can change its colours and shapes.
No. The conversion happens right in your browser, so your file stays on your device. There is no account to make, either.
