What is a VCF file?
Short answer
A VCF file holds one or more vCards: BEGIN:VCARD, a VERSION line, properties like FN, N, EMAIL and TEL, and END:VCARD. vCard 4.0 is RFC 6350; 3.0 is RFC 2426 and still the most common.
Importers get tripped by the differences between versions (how TEL and PHOTO are written), by escaped commas and semicolons in structured values, by folded lines, and by large embedded photos.

What you can generate
- vCard 4.0 or 3.0
- Unicode names
- Several emails and phones, with PREF
- Addresses, organisation and title with escaped commas and semicolons
- Birthdays, notes with line breaks, categories
- Base64 PNG photos
- Lines folded at 75 octets
How to make one
- Open the VCF generator, or start from a preset above.
- Set the size and switch on the edge cases you need; the preview and size estimate follow every change.
- Generate, then download. The file is made in your browser, and the same preset and seed always give you the same file.
Questions
Use 3.0 for the widest support (older Outlook and phones), and 4.0 to test modern parsers.
No. They use the 555-01xx range set aside for fiction, and emails are on example.test.
