What is a MIDI file?
MIDI (.mid) holds music as notes, not sound: which instrument plays which note, when and how loud. Karaoke .kar and RIFF .rmi files are MIDI too.
Every part with its instrument, a piano roll of every note that follows the music, and a player. The music is played with simple built-in sounds, not a real instrument set, so it sounds plainer than a synthesiser would.
How to open a MIDI file
- Add your MIDI. Drop the file in the box, choose it or paste it.
- Look at it. Every part with its instrument, a piano roll of every note that follows the music, and a player. The music is played with simple built-in sounds, not a real instrument set, so it sounds plainer than a synthesiser would.
- Take it further. Open in hands it, in a new tab, to File converter or Batch.
Questions
Drop it here. It plays with simple built-in sounds; the parts and notes are shown beside it.
No: MIDI has no sound of its own, and webdave’s built-in sounds are simple. It is good for hearing the tune, not for a finished recording.
No. The viewer runs in your browser and opens the file on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
