What is a VSIX file?

In short

A VSIX is a Visual Studio or VS Code extension: a ZIP with the extension and its manifest.

The extension’s name, ID, version, publisher and description, and the VS Code version it needs, then every file.

How to open a VSIX file

  1. Add your VSIX. Drop the file in the box, choose it or paste it.
  2. Look at it. The extension’s name, ID, version, publisher and description, and the VS Code version it needs, then every file.
  3. Take it further. Download any file from inside an archive, or open another file.
