What is a CSR file?

In short

A CSR (certificate signing request, PKCS#10) is what you send a certificate authority to get a certificate: your name or domain, your public key and the extensions you ask for, signed with your private key.

The subject, the key type and size, the alternative names and other extensions requested, and whether the request’s signature was made by its own key. A challenge password is noted but not shown.

How to open a CSR file

  1. Add your CSR. Drop the file in the box, choose it or paste it.
  2. Look at it. The subject, the key type and size, the alternative names and other extensions requested, and whether the request’s signature was made by its own key. A challenge password is noted but not shown.
  3. Take it further. Open in hands it, in a new tab, to File converter.
