How to make a file fit an upload form

      Short answer

Type what the form says it accepts, such as “PDF under 2 MB”, drop your file and press Make it fit. You get a file that meets each rule, a preview to check it is still readable, and a list of every rule with what the file now is.

      1. Say what the form accepts

Paste the form’s own words or type them: “JPG 600×600, under 240 KB”, “max 3 pages”, “file name without spaces”. Or pick a common one. Each rule understood shows as a chip; open Each rule to change one.

      2. Drop the file

A PDF, or a photo from a phone or camera: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF, AVIF, PSD or a camera RAW. When the shape must change, drag the box to choose the part kept.

      3. Make it fit

Pictures are cropped, sized and saved at the best quality that is still under the limit, and made smaller only when quality alone is not enough. PDFs are compressed so scanned text stays readable.

      4. Check and download

Look at the preview, read the list, and download the file under a name that meets the name rules.

      What it understands

      RuleWritten likeWhat it does
FormatPDF, JPG or PNG, imageConverts to an accepted format; a picture can become a one-page A4 PDF and a PDF’s first page a picture
File sizeunder 2 MB, max 500 KB, 20–50 KBLowers quality first, then pixels; compresses PDFs
Pixels600×600, at least 1200 px wide, between 600×600 and 1200×1200Resizes; an exact size is cropped to its shape first
Shapesquare, 4:3, 35:45Crops to the shape, centred until you move the box
Pagesmax 3 pages, one pageChecks the count; you choose which pages go in the PDF tools
File nameno spaces, lowercase, 50 characters, no special charactersWrites a name that meets them

KB, MB and the two kinds

Some forms count a megabyte as 1,000,000 bytes, others as 1,048,576. You can’t tell which from the page, so a limit is read the strict way for its side: “under 2 MB” means at most 2,000,000 bytes and “at least 10 KB” means at least 10,240 bytes. The file passes either way.

      Where does the file go?

Nowhere. It is read and made again by your browser, on your device. The saved copy keeps no location, camera or date details from a photo.

      Questions

No. The file is read and made again in your browser. Nothing is sent to webdave or anyone else.

Forms use both. An upper limit is read as the smaller one, 2,000,000 bytes, and a lower limit as the larger one, so the file passes either way.

It says so and shows the smallest file it could make and which rule it misses, so you can decide whether that is good enough.

Not yet: a browser cannot draw Word files. Save the document as a PDF from Word, then drop the PDF.
