What is a GeoJSON file?
GeoJSON is the JSON format for map data: points, lines and areas with properties. Web maps, QGIS, PostGIS and most map libraries read and write it.
A sketch of every feature, a table of their properties, and the map on request. Text shows the JSON.
How to open a GeoJSON file
- Add your GeoJSON. Drop the file in the box, choose it or paste it.
- Look at it. A sketch of every feature, a table of their properties, and the map on request. Text shows the JSON.
- Take it further. Open in hands it, in a new tab, to File converter.
Questions
Drop it here: it is drawn at once, with a table of its features. A .json file holding GeoJSON opens the same way.
GeoJSON puts longitude before latitude. If the shapes appear mirrored across the equator or far away, the file has them the other way round.
No. The file is read and sketched on your device. Only Show map asks OpenFreeMap for the map tiles of the area you look at; the file itself is never sent.
No. The viewer runs in your browser and opens the file on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
