What is a KML file?
KML is Google Earth’s format, also used by Google My Maps: places, lines and areas in folders, each with a name and a description.
A sketch of every placemark, a table with their folders, descriptions and extra data, and the map on request. Descriptions are shown as plain text. Text shows the XML.
How to open a KML file
- Add your KML. Drop the file in the box, choose it or paste it.
- Look at it. A sketch of every placemark, a table with their folders, descriptions and extra data, and the map on request. Descriptions are shown as plain text. Text shows the XML.
- Take it further. Open in hands it, in a new tab, to File converter.
Questions

Styles are not drawn: every feature shows in the same colours. The table still lists them all.
No. The file is read and sketched on your device. Only Show map asks OpenFreeMap for the map tiles of the area you look at; the file itself is never sent.
No. The viewer runs in your browser and opens the file on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
