How to find personal data in a PDF

In short

Drop the PDF and it is searched at once for emails, phone numbers, IBANs, card numbers, national ID numbers, dates of birth, addresses and IP addresses. Numbers are listed only when their check digits are right. Turn on Names to find people with an AI model on your device.

  1. Drop the PDF

Its text is read page by page and searched straight away.

  2. Review the list

Matches are grouped by kind, with their page and the words around them. Open a page to see where each one is.

  3. Redact, if you like

Untick what should stay and press Redact PDF to remove the rest for good.

Questions

Emails, phone numbers, IBANs, card numbers, national ID numbers from the US, UK, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy and Poland, dates of birth next to a word for birth, street addresses, IP and MAC addresses, and words or a pattern you add.

Every number is checked the way its issuer does: IBANs by mod 97, cards by the Luhn digit and their prefix, ID numbers by their own check digits and dates. A number that only looks right is not listed.
