How to remove metadata from a PDF

In short

Drop the PDF, check what the table found, choose whether JavaScript, comment names and attachments go too, and press Remove metadata. The copy is written whole, so earlier versions inside the file go as well.

  1. Drop the PDF

The panel lists its title, author, app, dates, XMP, earlier versions and other hidden data.

  2. Choose what goes

Everything in the table goes. JavaScript and comment names go too unless you untick them; attachments stay unless you tick them.

  3. Remove

Press Remove metadata and download the clean copy.

Questions

Usually a title, author, the app that made it and dates, often again in XMP, sometimes earlier versions of the file, names on comments and editing data from the app.

Yes. The copy is written once from what the pages use, so nothing from earlier saves stays at the end of the file.

A signed PDF’s signatures stop matching, and a PDF/A file is no longer marked as one without its XMP. The page warns before you save.

No. It is cleaned by your browser, on your device.
